APAHM 2017: The Latinos of Asia: How Filipino Americans Break the Rules of Race (DICE)

Time: Thursday, January 26, 2017 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Location: Ohio Union Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions

Dr. Anthony Ocampo, a scholar and writer focusing on race, immigration, and LGBTQ issues, will be joining us for a discussion on his latest book, “The Latinos of Asia”. In this book, he discusses the interesting phenomenon behind Filipino Americans tracing their roots back to Asia but yet sharing numerous cultural similarities with Latinos, such as religion and last names. Thus, the question arises: are Filipinos in the United States becoming Asian American or Latino? The Latinos of Asia highlights the identities of Filipino Americans and how they may differ depending on the social context and communities in which individuals grow up.

This event also counts toward your DICE Certificate (H&A) so be sure bring your DICE card or stop by the MCC to pick one up. More information about DICE can be found here:
