Don’t you wish you still had recess?
We hope you’re having an excellent summer! Student Life’s Counseling and Consultation Service is planning to host the 5th Annual RECESS event this coming October 3, 2018 (11am-3pm on the South Oval).
Description and Vision
During National Mental Health Awareness Week (October 7-13, 2018), mental health advocates and professionals across the country join with others in their communities to offer activities aimed at education about mental health and illness, stigma reduction, and wellness. You may remember many of the great events offered last year throughout the week including RECESS! We were able to reach over 1200 students last year! We hope that this event will put a positive psychology spin on mental health awareness through a RECESS theme, involving a variety of play activities that encourage positive play, wellness, and mental health for the OSU community. The aim of this event is to bring the nostalgia of school recess and the playfulness of fun and childhood into the present.
Why play? And why play for adults? Play can create a positive state of mind and pleasant emotions, which can foster great things for our students and our community like creativity, innovation, mental flexibility, empathy, social connections and a sense of belonging, stress relief, and resilience. Play can also lead to mindfulness, relaxation, and is inherently nonjudgmental as it can be nondirective, unstructured, and self-motivating. At the event, individuals will have the opportunity to explore their own styles of play, try out new ways to play, relax, learn, and most importantly, have FUN! With your time, efforts, and contributions, this will again be a memorable and impactful event for all members of the Ohio State community!
Join us for this event and grab a “Hall Pass” and try out different play styles then return your hall pass for a chance to win a fabulous prize!
