Time: Sunday, August 11, 2019 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
On this trip, First-Year students will be greeted by snow-topped mountains framed by deep blue skies as they enter Rocky Mountain National Park. On this adventure, you'll fly to gorgeous Colorado and spend the week in the Rockies. Participants on this trip will experience front-country camping and climbing mixed with backcountry camping and backpacking in the Rocky Mountains. Student leaders will help develop the leadership skills of first-year students. The trip is challenging, yet appropriate for both novice and more experienced climbers. At the end of the trip, first year students who have elected to be an OWL (all Wilderness Welcome participants are encouraged to be OWLs*) will move-in early (August 15) and can safely store their residence hall items at the OAC for the duration of the trip. OAC staff will assist in the move-in process on August 15 so a participant’s family only needs to make one trip to campus. This trip is also available for one academic credit hour. More information can be found here.
*Students who elect not to be an OWL or who don’t register by June 30 can: return home on August 15 and move in on the normal move-in day, August 18 or pay Residence Life for early move-in (typically $40/day).
This is a mix between a frontcountry & backcountry trip: Participants on this trip will sleep in tents throughout the trip. During the backpacking portion there will be no access to showers, running water or other modern amenities. During the rock climbing portion there will be limited access to these amenities. Trip leaders will teach participants how to dispose of waste properly by following Leave No Trace ethics. What's included in the Trip Fee? all meals, transportation (including round-trip flight), trip leader instruction and activity-specific gear (excludes personal clothing and footwear). Students with financial need (Pell eligible for example) may apply for a scholarship to reduce program cost. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for details on how to apply. How to register: you will need to create a new RecRegister account. Use your OSU email and ID # if you have it. Once you have created your account, please click the Sign Up and make a payment to reserve your spot. Note this program will sell out and payment is required to hold your spot. Difficulty Level: 3 out of 5 For details & tips for preparing for the trip please reference OAC Physical Challenge Scale
