Trans Life Hacks

Creative Arts Room, Ohio Union
Thursday, Nov 16
7 - 8 p.m.

In life there are several experiences and lessons that we've learned that help us with our every day. Some of these things we've only learned because of our assigned gender, and we've entirely missed out on a set of skills or tips that may be very important to feel safe and express yourself in all of the ways you want to. Please come down to the Creative Arts Room in the basement of the Ohio Union on 11/16 from 7 - 8 p.m. for an evening of Trans Life Hacks, presented by and for trans, queer, gender non-conforming and gender questioning folks.

You'll have the opportunity to learn new skills such as tying a tie, makeup 101 and how to dress for your figure. Along with dressing for figure, we will have folks who will be able to hem clothes that weren't made for your body size or type.

Please join the MCC and Trans*Mission for putting on our Trans Life Hacks night with snacks, smiles and a stellar time!

Trans Awareness Week Signature Event: America in Transition with Dezjorn Gauthier

Friday, November 17, 2017
4 - 5 p.m.
Alonso Family Room, Student Life Multicultural Center, Ohio Union

We are pleased to hosting Dezjorn Gauthier of America in Transition, who will be facilitating a workshop and film screening about his experience of trans visibility. America in Transition (AIT) is a documentary series and community engagement campaign that explores community, family, and social issues for trans people of color across the United States.

We hope that you can join us for one or both of these amazing events. Afterwards, we will be headed out to Trans Ohio’s Candlelight Vigil.

Workshop: “The Visibility Contradiction: Why Are Trans People Dying in an Age of Celebrity?”

Friday, November 17, 2017
6 – 7 p.m.
Alonso Family Room, Multicultural Center, Ohio Union

2015 was heralded as the transgender tipping point, but it was a record-breaking year for violence and murders of trans women of color. Does celebrity make us safer? We will examine the role of visibility in movement building, the fight for civil rights and achieving social justice

Trans Day of Remembrance Candlelight Vigil

Friday, November 17, 2017
7:30 - 9 p.m.
Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions Room

Join LGBTQ Initatives and community partners in marking the Transgender Day of Remembrance.

"The Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible - it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice."
- Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith

The Ohio State community will be honoring those who have lost their lives due to anti-transgender bias or violence on Friday, November 17th at 7:30 pm.

Refreshmetns and connection will round out the evening.
