Please join the Student Life Multicultural Center as we celebrate Transgender Empowerment and Awareness Week happening November 18-22! We have a week of events that honor, empower, and support our transgender and gender non-conforming communities here at The Ohio State University!

Trans Empowerment and Awareness Week Luncheon

Date: Monday, November 18th, 2019

Location: Brutus Buckeye Room, Ohio Union

Time: 2:00pm-3:30pm

Description: Please join the Student Life Multicultural Center as we kick off Transgender Empowerment and Awareness Week with a social luncheon! This is a chance for our transgender and gender non-conforming community to come together and be in community with each other! There will be free food for the first 25 people! 


How To Be a Better Trans Ally

Date: Monday, November 18th, 2019

Location: Barbie Tootle Room, Ohio Union

Time: 8:00pm-9:00pm

Description: Wonder how you can be a better ally to your trans friends and siblings? Have some suggestions you wish your friends would know? Come join us in a group discussion about how to be a better ally with Pride OSU and TransMission. 


Suited Film Screening

Date: Tuesday, November 19th, 2019

Location: US Bank Conference Theater

Time: 7:00pm-9:00pm

Description: SUITED tells the story of Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn tailoring company that looks beyond the gender binary, creating custom-made suits for gender non-conforming and transgender clients. Clothier duo Rae Tutera and Daniel Friedman take a holistic approach to their work, considering each client's personal narrative, which becomes inextricable from the creation of the perfect suit. With heart and optimism, SUITED spotlights the intimate journey of coming into a new identity, accepting difference, and living bravely in one's own skin, underscoring the important message that one size truly doesn't fit all. This event counts towards 1 DICE credit.


Open Safe Zone

Date: Wednesday, November 20th, 2019

Location: Brutus Buckeye Room, Ohio Union

Time: 2:00pm-4:00pm

Description: This Safe Zone session addresses the experiences of LGBTQ communities through an engaging and interactive instructor-led training. This session is designed to:

  • Provide an overview and discussion of issues and concerns faced by LGBTQ individuals and communities.
  • Increase awareness and understanding about sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression.
  • Provide resources for students, faculty and staff for allyship.
  • Promote a safer, more welcoming and more inclusive campus environment in which all campus community members of all sexual orientations and gender identities can live and learn fully.

Transgender Day of Remembrance 

Date: Wednesday, November 20th, 2019

Location: King Avenue UMC 299 King Ave, Columbus OH 43201

Time: 6:30pm

Description: Join the Student Life Multicultural Center and Trans*Mission as we gather together to honor the lives lost to transphobic violence this year. We will be meeting at King Avenue UMC for a special vigil and reading of names of those who have been lost this year. This event is sponsored by Trans Ohio. Trans*Mission Open Mic Night 

Date: Thursday, November 21st, 2019

Location: Kafe Kerouac 2250 N. High St. Columbus OH 43201

Time: 7:00pm-9:00pm

Description: Please join Trans*Mission for an open mic poetry night focused on trans communities and their experiences. If you identify within the community, feel free to come up with any poetry, spoken word, or song to share! We are centering trans voices and experiences within this event, but welcome other community and allies to come and support!


Trans*Mission End of the Week Celebration

Date: Friday, November 22nd, 2019

Location: Hays Cape Room, Ohio Union

Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm

Description: Join Trans*Mission as celebrate the end of Transgender Empowerment and Awareness Week! We will honor the trans people that have lost their lives this year, lighting a candle for each person.

Afterwards we will have a discussion about that experience before moving on to a open art project. We will have paint and canvasses to express our feelings and thoughts about TDOR and those that have lost their lives. In the past people have illustrated the names of those lost, expressed unity within the community and more. Don’t be worried if you’re not artistic, this will be a judgement free zone and is more about the content than ability. We will include by sharing our pieces with one another and reflect on the event.
