Location: Multicultural Center, Alonso Family Room
Join the Student Life Multicultural Center’s LGBTQ Student Initiatives, African/African-American Student Initiatives, and Women’s Student Initiatives for a special showing and discussion of T’Ain’t Nobody’s Bizness: Queer Blues Divas of the 1920s. This film highlights the hidden sexualities of Black women entertainers of the jazz and blues era of the 1920s. Highlighting historical figures such as Ma Rainey, Ethel Waters, Bessie Smith, and more, these pioneers of the Blues successfully conducted same-gender relationships with friends and working partners is a tribute to their independent spirits and a marker of the relaxed mores that shaped the world of Black entertainment. There will be light refreshments served. This event counts towards 1 credit for DICE certification.
